On February 20th, students, community members, district administrators, city officials, and teachers attended an all-day Educational Visioning Session hosted by ThenDesign Architecture at North Ridgeville’s Academic Center. This session focused on group collaboration as attendees brainstormed how the district’s new high school would improve every student’s educational experience for generations to come.
The Gilmour Academy Student Commons renovation project will bring contemporary amenities and enjoyment to future generations of students.
ThenDesign Architecture was recently featured in an article in the February 2024 AdminiScope reporting on our collaboration with the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) on comprehensively updating the Ohio School Design Manual.
The “Art Time Capsule” project was created by the nonprofit Willoughby Arts Collaborative in 2020. It was buried in front of the ThenDesign Architecture building in historic downtown Willoughby in July 2023. The capsule contains thirty entries from local artists, South High School students, and Andrews Osborne Academy students and will remain sealed for the next 46 years.
Substantial progress has been made in the construction of the new Cuyahoga Falls City School District’s 6-12 campus since the groundbreaking ceremony. The winter months proved to be productive, with the project remaining on schedule and on budget.
Throughout 2023, planning staff members from the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission (OFCC) and ThenDesign Architecture (TDA) met with school districts, architects, the career technical community, engineers, and construction managers in Ohio to get their feedback and contributions to the comprehensive redesign of the Ohio School Design Manual.
Geauga County celebrated its much-anticipated Groundbreaking Ceremony for the expansion and renovation of the Geauga County Courthouse. On December 12th, local community members and government officials gathered on a brisk afternoon in Chardon Square to recognize this unique occasion.
As part of the “Catalyst for Change” initiative, the 204,000 SF Wickliffe PreK-12 Campus was designed to create flexible learning spaces for the Wickliffe City School District that would be capable of adapting to future educational needs. The facility hosts collaborative spaces, flexible classrooms, athletics areas, and a nearly 500-seat performing arts center. The $60 million project replaces the aging elementary, middle, and high schools with a single PreK-12 building. In addition, the new facility hosts space for the Family Resource Center, a community center that offers free services to many in need.
For championship-winning Kirtland High School, the athletics program is not just about playing sports but also giving young people a well-rounded student experience that builds character to help them better prepare for future challenges.
As part of the design development process for the Perry Local School District, ThenDesign Architecture created a fly-through animation of what the completed Southway Elementary School will look like.
On September 20th, students, parents, community members, faith leaders, city officials, and district staff attended an Educational Visioning Session hosted by ThenDesign Architecture at Brunswick High School. This 4-hour session focused on collaboration and brainstorming designs for the district’s new high school.
Local community members, educators, and students gathered in Wickliffe, Ohio, to celebrate the grand opening, open house, and ribbon cutting of the Wickliffe PreK-12 Campus.
Despite a major storm and power outages in Northeastern Ohio, the Kirtland Local School District persevered and held a ribbon cutting ceremony that officially inaugurated the newly renovated Wilson Stadium.
The new Fairport Harbor Exempted School District’s PreK-12 Campus 116,000 SF building will replace the existing Harding High School and McKinley Elementary. It will include an attached, contemporary Fairport Harbor Library designed with a modern educational environment that will be enjoyed by the community and future generations of Fairport Harbor students.
On August 15th, 2023 Rocky River City Schools opened the doors to their newly renovated Media Center in the Middle School. Attended by dozens that included the school administration, school board, members of the Rocky River Education Foundation, local media, teachers and students, all got to experience the space firsthand. This roughly 3,500 sf space features a new modular floor plan with flexible furniture and technology upgrades, it opens officially for the 2023-2024 school year.
South High School in Willoughby, Ohio, also known as Union Village, incorporates four separate entities into a single building. Jeff Henderson of ThenDesign Architecture (TDA) explains the challenges of creating a structure to host different organizations under one roof, sharing common spaces, yet having each retain their identity.
As a continuation of the design of the Wickliffe City School District’s new educational facility, and their “Reimagining Education” initiative, representatives of ThenDesign Architecture, educators from Wickliffe Schools, and students met in early 2021 to engage in a session focused on the layout of the school’s new playground. Dozens of students in grades 3-6 met in the cafeteria of the existing elementary school to discuss the best games and equipment to suit their time at recess. Then, they had the opportunity to build their ideal playground out of toothpicks, crayons, and marshmallows, before submitting it to the design team.
As part of TDA’s ongoing mission to promote creativity, teamwork, and collaboration among staff, team members participated in a Canvas Art Project. The goal was to render thirty separate blank canvas art panels to form a mosaic of hues, shapes, and textures that would ultimately form the TDA logo.
Archie Liptow works as an Emerging Professional for ThenDesign Architecture (TDA) and is passionate about creating safe, joyful spaces for students to thrive. After discovering his artistic talents in high school, he pursued his education to develop his creativity further. Archie is excited about participating in designing environments that will change students’ lives.
The new Geauga County Office Building will serve the community for decades. It is a 115,700 SF facility in the geographic center of rural Geauga County. Designed to house the Board of Commissioner’s offices and consolidate county services into one building, it blends the surrounding landscape with a functional, modern aesthetic while incorporating sustainable features in a timeless nod to Geauga County’s natural resources and beauty.
