"We're not in the drawing business; we're in the thinking business..."

Those were the words of Bruce Huston, the founder of our predecessor firm, Huston Associates. Sadly, Mr. Huston recently passed away.

Mr. Huston was a leader in his time. His firm was one of only four from Ohio to help draft BEPS (Building Energy Performance Standards), a national energy policy created after the energy crisis in the early ‘80s. In 1981, he also completed the first solar-assisted school in the United States (Fairfield Middle School). Finally, Mr. Huston was at the forefront in the development of “new” teaching methods such as “collaborative teaching” and career centers.

In 1989, Mr. Huston retired and Robert Fiala, a former employee of Huston Associates, became the managing partner and renamed the firm, ThenDesign Architecture. He was instrumental in helping to establish TDA as we know it today; having provided office space, equipment, access to his client roster, but most of all, great wisdom.
