“We are in the thinking business…”

This has been the guiding principle behind TDA’s success for two decades.

TDA was originally founded as Huston Associates in 1951 by architect Bruce Huston. Based in Willoughby, Ohio, Huston Associates was a renowned design firm. In 1989, Huston retired and Robert Fiala, a former employee of Huston Associates, became the managing partner and renamed the firm, ThenDesign Architecture.

The name, ThenDesign, was created from the word “thencan,” the Old English word for “think.”  We believe that successful design is fostered by the art of thinking – thinking about your needs and developing aesthetically appropriate and workable design solutions to meet those needs.

ThenDesign became known as TDA in 2008 and even though the name has changed, this guiding philosophy of thought still holds true through our tagline, “think, design, act.”
